About us

We are the Diocese of California of the ECC (Ecumenical Catholic Communion).

We are communities of Faith in the Catholic Tradition, but we are not under the Pope's jurisdiction, in fact we are not under the canonical law or the guidelines of the Roman Catholic Church. Members of our faith communities, although we recognize the importance of the Pope in his role as a sign of unity and an important source of leadership within the Church, we see the dogma of papal infallibility as a strengthening of authoritarianism in the Church, which it is in contrast with the spirit, with the example and teachings of Jesus.

We recognize that every baptized person is an equal member of the Church. No Bishop, Priest or Deacon is the owner of the Church, nor of the sacramental ministry, much less of the grace of Christ. Therefore, Lay people have an important role in Church governance. The movement of the Holy Spirit and revelation of truth through the community of the faithful is respected. In the Catholic tradition this is known as "sensus fidelium", that is, the religious sense of the faithful.

We affirm that the Church in her nature is sacramental. Therefore, the work of the Church is essentially understood as a Sacramental Ministry. Through the celebration of these Divine Mysteries, we are renewed by the saving presence of the Resurrected Jesus.

We welcome all and provide a sense of belonging in our open, inclusive and loving Faith Communities. We support a clerical team that is diverse and which embraces a servant’s ministry. We work toward racial and social justice, and reach out to those in need, as expressions of our faith.

Profesamos nuestra fe en Cristo dentro de la tradición católica que viene entregada a nosotros por los Apóstoles a través de muchas generaciones. Estamos abiertos a un diálogo activo con otras identidades religiosas y tradiciones de fe.

Prestamos nuestro servicio principalmente a hombres y mujeres que, desde una identidad propia por vínculos de lengua, cultura e historia, quieran trabajar por el Reino de Dios en la Tierra, cada cual conforme a sus dones recibidos.

Somos Comunidades de Fe en la tradición Católica, pero no estamos bajo la jurisdicción del Papa, por lo que no estamos sujetos a la ley canónica o las directrices de la Iglesia Católica Romana. Los miembros de nuestras comunidades de fe, aunque reconocemos la importancia del Papa en su papel como signo de unidad y como una fuente importante de liderazgo dentro de la Iglesia, vemos el dogma de la infalibilidad papal como un refuerzo del autoritarismo dentro de la Iglesia, que es contrario al espíritu, al ejemplo y a las enseñanzas de Jesús.

Reconocemos que cada bautizado es un miembro más de la Iglesia. Somos abiertos a todos. Ningún obispo, sacerdote o diácono es propietario de la Iglesia, ni del ministerio sacramental, o mucho menos de la Gracia de Cristo. Por lo tanto, los laicos tienen un papel importante y prominente en el gobierno de la Iglesia. Todos deben respetar, así como buscar activamente discernir cómo el Espíritu Santo motiva la acción de los fieles. En la tradición católica esto se conoce como la determinación del "sensus fidelium" - el sentido de los fieles.
